Don't Let it Happen 2 Poetry Spokenword Reunion

When and Where:

It was once commonplace to walk into a venue any night of the week and catch an array of "heavy hitters" on the open mic. Artists and fans alike would be in for an evening of consecutive mini-features that were fueled with inspiration. Events of this nature are now sparse. As a result we have decided to invite these poets into one place and show the up and coming artists and ever growing fanbase just one of the many reasons why we do what we do.

Inspired by Kuroji's Ntu's poem "Don't Let it Happen to Poetry" this event was established for the purpose of reclaiming the unity that exist within the spokenword. Over the past several years spokenword artist in the spokenword community have grown distant one from another in pursuit of individual artistic goals. We at Great Publishing feel that these pursuits while encouraged have caused somewhat of an unintentional decay in the concentrated power of this art.

National Underground Spokeword Poetry Awards (annually 2005-present)

When and Where:

The celebration of a budding yet ancient art form. Spokenword reaches as far back into antiquity as human dialogue. Griot, Storyteller, Prophet, Minister, Motivational Speaker anyone who uses the power of the word to encourage uplift heal inform or drive people into action have been our examples of a Spokenword Artist. However it has been in the last decade that Spokenword in its modern sense has swept the nation and world by quiet storm. Our use of the term "quiet" means hidden during development because any fan of spokenword can tell you that our collective word storm has been anything and everything but silent.

Poets are making this craft visible in every talk of life from coffehouses to Broadway. With all the accomplishments being accumulated by our contemporaries we at Great Publishing saw it both our opportunity and duty to established this ceremony in honor of those who have plowed the field, tilled the soil and planted the seeds that are blooming before the eyes of the world in what we know as Spokenword.

Our first official Great Event and it brings back a plethora of memories The Penpoint Ball was an elegant evening. We had poets who normally are backpacking across the nation spreading the word show up in tuxedoes and evening gowns. A combination of good food, good music and most importantly good people. Also the birth of "Silk Essence" lol you had to be there.
